"Drishti" for education is born out of the belief that addressing the problem of education is pivotal in breaking the ‘vicious cycle’ of blindness. Founded on 15th October 1995, at Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh, ‘Drishti’ is an action group dedicated to catalyzing socio- economic change in India through the education of visually challenged children.
Today the Vidyalaya provides free education to a number of children who are being taught through Braille and touch language. Accordingly, the students are given free training in music, dance and sports for an all-round development. Also, efforts have been made to run the adult education programme. This includes home management courses, especially meant for female students to shape them into efficient housekeepers. Till now almost 600 visually challenged girls who have been trained in their own houses have reaped the benefits of this special programme. Shankar Lal Gupta, president of the institution says “ In the beginning Drishti was started as a school for blind, but seeing the need of the hour a residential hostel for girls was constructed for ‘Drishti Nentraheen Balika Vidyalaya”.
